Though a small town, Monterey is a friendly welcoming community with many people coming from other states to call this area home.  Monterey First Baptist is made up of these same friendly faces, some local, some transplants, but all feel like family.

We have knowledgeable adult Bible study teachers who bring the Word to life in their teaching.  Discussion allows everyone to be a part of the learning.  We pray together, laugh together, learn together, and grow together.

Our children's ministry teachers and nursery attendants have a gift for relating to the children and making learning the Bible fun.  They have a pure joy and love for teaching these young ones and it shows as the children can't wait to come to class and Children's Church.

The morning worship service is made up of praising God in song and being fed from the Word of God.  We have some of the best Bible preaching you will hear, from men of God who don't compromise the teaching of the Scriptures.  You will leave blessed, encouraged, and very likely challenged in your Christian growth.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe the Bible is a perfect treasure of divine instruction.  God is its author, salvation is its end, and truth without any mixture of error is its matter.  It is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.

We believe man was created by God, in His own image.  Man was created innocent of sin and given freedom of choice by his Creator.  By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin upon the human race.  Only God's grace can bring man into His holy fellowship.  Created in God's image and Christ having died for man is evidence that every man possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

We believe the New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers.  The church is an autonomous body, operating through democratic processes under the Lordship of Christ.  Members are equally responsible.  Scriptural officers are pastors and deacons.

We believe the Lord's Supper is the other of the two ordinances in the Scriptures.  It is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through the partaking of the bread and fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

We believe it is the duty of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations.  Missionary effort on the part of all rests on the spiritual necessity of the regenerate life, and is expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teachings of Christ.  It is the duty of every child of God to seek to win the lost to Christ by personal effort and by all other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

We believe there is only one living and true God.  He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the Universe.  God is infinite in holiness and perfection.  To Him we owe the highest love, reverence and obedience.  He reveals himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit each with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being.

We believe salvation involves the redemption of man and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Salvation includes regeneration, sanctification, and glorification.

We believe baptism is one of two ordinances in the Scriptures.  It is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  It is an act of obedience symbolizing faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior, as well as the believer's death to sin, burial of old life, and resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ.

We believe that God, in His own time and His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end.  According to His promise, Jesus will return personally and visibly to the earth; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all men in righteousness.  The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment.  The righteous, in resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in heaven with the Lord.

We believe God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual.  All that we have and are we owe to Him.  Christians are therefore under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions and should recognize all these as entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others.  According to the Scriptures, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer's cause on earth.

*God the Father reigns over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of human  history according to the purposes of His grace.  He is all-powerful, all loving, and all wise.

*Christ is the eternal Son of God.  His incarnation as Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin.  Jesus revealed and did the will of God, taking on Himself the demands and necessities of human nature, identifying completely with mankind yet without sin.  By His death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of men from sin.  He was raised from the dead with a glorified body. He ascended into heaven and is now at the right hand of God where He is Mediator between God and man.  He will return to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission.  He is the living and ever present Lord to all believers.

*The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.  He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures.  He enables men to understand truth.  He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment.  He calls men to the Savior.  He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, bestows spiritual gifts by which they serve God, and seals believers unto the day of final redemption.

*Regeneration is the new birth, a work of God's grace.  It is a change of heart in which the sinner responds in repentance (genuine turning from sin toward God) and faith (acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment to Him as Lord and Savior.)  Faith and repentance are inseparable.

*Sanctification is the experience by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes and enables the believer to grow in grace through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him.  Sanctification begins with regeneration.

*Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed.
